The 13-Month Socks

Today while writing another blog post, I found this piece written and ready to go. So this is the 5-year blog post about the 13-month socks.

I started knitting a pair of socks in February of 2014. They sit before me, now at the beginning of April, 2015, finished. Usually, it takes me about a month—maybe two—to finish a pair.

The yarn was purchased at half price from Webs when my husband drove me  an hour and forty-five minutes each way so that I could spend more money than I ought to have on hand-dyed yarn.

This particular skein of pale green was hanging in the clearance section in the warehouse. It was named “Pond Scum” by Blue Moon Fiber Arts. The yarn had a bounce to it. The soft green color shimmered. The plies were spun together tightly and it felt warm and soft. I knew this was going to make a great pair of socks. Continue reading “The 13-Month Socks”

Almost Knits and Not Quite There Knits

This whole “12 in 2012” thing seems reasonable to me because I am counting things that I finish that have been started earlier.  It’s not cheating because some of the things are big (like a sweater), and some are on size 1 needles.  I’ve got an armada of projects that are not finished that really ought to be and this gives me fabulous incentive.  I’m going to run down the list here of things that I have not finished but will be finished by the end of the year.

Strange Findings…

Well, only strange for me because I don’t really like Harry Potter.  But, I LOVE this sweater and want to make it oh-so-badly.

The sweater I am referring to is Hermione’s Fair Isle sweater from the new film The Deathly Hallows Part 1.

Some things I love about this sweater:

  • The cabled button band (awesome detail)
  • The colors (surprisingly pretty for pastels)
  • The Fair Isle pattern (simple, very fashionable)
  • The fit (long arms look cozy, has enough ease to wear layers underneath and is still flattering and not bulky)

Currently, I am working on my first fair isle (stranded color work) project.  The Eesti Trail Hiking Socks from the book Favorite Socks published by Interweave press.  I love this book, and the socks are gorgeous.  I’m using Vintage Wool by Berroco

So far, they look like this:

Now I just need to finish them by tomorrow…(That’s a sock-and-a-half).
